One 14-year-old boy was found dead just days after being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a dead baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

The young boy's mother and father discovered his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The inquest heard how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes generated social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that Kai had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' views genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was found. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not reached out to the family by the time of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said her son "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Conclusion

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
